Welcome...
Dear Students & Families,
I am excited to be teaching at Avon View for my 15th year. Teaching, and learning are passions of mine but I love anything computer related. I am a nerd, a mom, a teacher, and a friend.
Avon View is like a second home and I am excited to get back to the classroom. It has been a challenging few months for everyone, but I can’t wait to meet you!
My undergraduate degree is in Computer Science with a second teachable in secondary mathematics. After completing this degree, I did an Education degree. Both degrees were completed full time at Acadia. After teaching for awhile I finished a Masters of Education degree part-time from Mt.St.Vincent University in 2008. It focused on Curriculum Studies and Technology. In 2015 I wanted to explore teaching Math for the P- 9 grades to better support my secondary math teaching practices. The Math Teaching Certificate from Acadia was completed part-time (a total of 10 courses). It covered math pedagogy, research in mathematics and was a good refresher of math concepts.
You should know - My imagination is huge. I am an over analyzer, a dreamer and a problem solver. I like learning new things and creating!
One of my favourite things is being in the classroom, and I have missed it!
So...I am looking forward to being part of the process of learning with you.
It is my job to show you, to empathize with you and to help you. My goal is to teach you to learn independently and to be an active member in your learning process.
This year will be different. We will need to change how things are done —but if you are willing ...we will learn together.
Listen and Learn.
Do and Understand.
Engage and enjoy.
Until next time...
Ms. P
