What is this course?
Design 11 gives you an opportunity to understand and apply solutions to problems.
We make things and create things. Students will use hands on materials such as software, drafting & drawing supplies to develop solutions. Topics include building & architecture, basic 3D modelling, inventing products & their packaging, marketing & presenting an idea to customers, creating graphics & communicating clearly using technology. Design strategies generally can be used in virtually any field of design (fashion, computer, architecture, building, interior design, and advertising etc). Students use different software and their imaginations to write, create and make (using cardboard, wood, plastics, foam and other craft supplies) projects and present their ideas to the class. |
Designers Notebook 40%Completed in class this notebook will contain and be updated most classes. It may contain notes, diagrams, doodles, ideas, thumbnails, responses to class reflections, video reviews, summaries of readings, models, research and completed handouts, in class exercises on software etc.... It is always ongoing as a formative assessment. Extra copies of these entries are available from the teacher if requested in a timely manner. They may also be available via google classroom.
Daily attendance is extremely important for success with this notebook. It is difficult to make up several notebook entries as class participation may be required. This notebook is worth 40% of the course, and is graded at the end of each unit. Projects 60%Completed mostly in class, but may require work at home or after hours. Projects are done over a few classes, usually completed over several days. Mostly projects involve being creative, using your imagination, and will make use of software or equipment used for designing. These projects are often done individually but may provide some opportunities to work with groups or pairs depending on the project. Projects tend to have many parts, these parts would be worth points and are outlined in class with a rubric.
They are worth 60% of your mark total. |
