Dear Students & Families,
I am excited to be teaching at Avon View for my 12th year. Teaching, and learning are passions of mine but I am obsessed with anything computer related. My undergraduate degree is in Computer Science (BCS '02) with a second teachable in secondary mathematics. After completing this degree, I did my BEd '04 (Education degree), at Acadia.
I completed my MEd (Masters of Education) at Mt.St.Vincent University in 2008. I enjoyed completing the courses aimed at Curriculum Studies and Technology. I was able to take the program off-campus while also working full time due to a unique cohort.
I recently ('15) completed 10 university courses in Math Education at Acadia. This program was a certificate in Math Education. I did these courses after work, during the summer months.
I enjoy programming, talking geek talk, and reading and analyzing anything related to how computers think and work. During the summers before I started to teach I worked as a community access coordinator and directed and designed cyber camps and tutorials relating to computer use. I was fortunate to work as an Instructional Designer for the School of Education at Acadia and gain valuable experience during the school year and summer months as a Software Designer. I especially enjoy graphics and layouts of GUIs.
I love being with my students, learning from them, coaching/mentoring new student teachers from Acadia (2012, 2013, 2014) and being part of the process of learning. Creating units, lessons and working with colleges is rewarding too.
The education I hope to provide you with is a guide to learning and discovering a new topic or exploring an old one in a different way.
The technology based courses especially have topics that you may never have encountered before.
I cannot wait to share my knowledge with you. It is my job to show you, to empathize with you and to help you. I strive to teach you to learn independently and to be an active member in your learning.
Please and thank yous are considered magic words in my classroom and generally speaking as long as you are nice you will not be asked to leave..... Plain and Simple.
Listen and Learn. Do and Understand. Come in and enjoy!
